VAT

Who Must Register?

The VAT threshold is currently £82,000, which means if your turnover reaches this figure in a 12 month rolling period, you must register your business for VAT.

The VAT registration applies to you individually if you are a sole trader, or to the business if you trade in a limited company.

The registration will apply from the 1st day of the 2nd month following the threshold being exceeded.

i.e. Turnover exceeds £82k on 20th June.

Apply for registration by 20th July.

Registration starts from 1st August

Some industries such as those in insurance and health do not need to register. For help or information give us a call on 01428 727313.

VAT returns are usually submitted every 3 months.

In order to submit the quarter return, your books must be kept up to date and available for inspection should HMRC require verification of the return figures.
